Viñales, a brilliant land!
In the most westerly part of the island, in Pinar del Rio, known as the Cuban countryside for its lush vegetation and diverse flora and fauna, is located Viñales, a small picturesque town that receives many visitors annually due to the attractive landscape that offers its valley: The Valley of Viñales.
In this small town, you can practice a number of activities suitable for everyone. It is ideal for nature tourism and adventure, you can practice from hiking to climbing or caving.
In addition Viñales is one of the places of Cuba, where a large percentage of their houses offer accommodation, being the best lodging option to choose during your stay in the island. As well as being this the most economical option of accommodation , it gives you the ability to share most of the day with local and know directly how Cubans live and think. In this small town you could spend few days and never would be bored, because there are countless recreational activities here that will allow you to get to know the customs of the Cuban peasant, the cultivation and processing of the world’s most famous snuff and enjoy its beautiful and varied landscape full of caves and geographical formations. 1. Enjoy spectacular sunrises.
Live the experience of riding in a carriage horses, walk with the light of the moon and stars to reach one of the most fascinating viewpoints of Viñales, where you can enjoy an amazing sunrise, with a unique view of the Viñales and Palmarito Valley and do not miss the opportunity to taste a hot and delicious Cuban coffee in the morning.
2. Discover the mysteries and beliefs of The Acuáticos.
Walk through the Viñales Valley till the top of the mountain: Los Jazmines; with a breathtaking view of the Valley of Viñales. Visit the house of a farmer and see how a pure Criollo is made, visit a small mountain community called Los Acuáticos. People that believes in the Force of Water Healing and learn more about their customs.
From this point you have a beautiful view of the Valley of Viñales and Palmarito.
3. Visit the Cave of St. Thomas.
The Cave of Santo Tomás is an immense cave system having seven levels, is the largest cave system of Cuba and second in Latin America with over 45 kilometers of routes and interconnected galleries, distributed in several levels with more than 10 entries. It has large galleries with stunning stalactites and stalagmites.
It was discovered by the Indians who left in it a variety of manifestations of their rock art. It was also used as a shelter by runaway black slaves cimarrones of old farms.
4. Walk the Palmarito Valley.
Walk the path of Valle del Palmarito or Silence, visit the house of snuff and tobacco plantations, the Cave of Silencio and do not miss the opportunity to enjoy a swim in one of the natural lakes that exist in the area.
5. Viewpoint Los Jazmines.
It is the ideal place to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery of the Valley of Vinales site. Every day there are many photos that immortalize this site because of the beautiful view of the valley. Several trails cross the surrounding fields, up to this viewpoint, but can also be accessed by road, on foot or by car.
6. Mural of the Prehistoria.
Just 4 kilometers from the village, in the mogote Dos Hermanas is displayed on one of its slopes the Mural of Prehistory. It is an immense painting of 120 meters high by 180 wide drawn by the Cuban Leovigildo González, which represented animals that existed in this region in prehistoric times. Among the painted figures, are human, Mesozoic marine reptiles, molluscs, etc.
This beautiful work was completely painted with brush.
